How to choose the suitable material for slurry pumps?

slurry pump is a type of pump designed for pumping liquid containing solid particles. Slurry pumps changes in design and construction to adjust to multiple type of slurry which varies in concentration of solids, size of solid particles, shape of solid particles, and composition of solution. Slurry pump are more robust than liquid pumps; they have added sacrificial material and replaceable wear parts to withstand wear due to abrasion.Slurry pumps are widely used in transport of abrasive solids in industries such as mining, dredging, and steel. They are often designed to be suitable for heavy-wearing and heavy-duty uses. Depending on the mining process, some slurries are corrosive which presents a challenge because corrosion-resistant materials like stainless steel are softer than high-iron steel. The materials of slurry pump are:High chrome alloy, Rubber, Polyurethane, Ceramic, Stainless steel etc.

High chrome alloy slurry pump

The most common metal alloy used to build slurry pumps is known as “high chrome”, which is including A05,A07,A49,A33,A51,A61

• KmTBCr27is a wear resistant white cast iron that offers excellent performance under erosive conditions. The alloy can be effectively used in a wide range of slurry types. The high wear resistance of KmTBCr27 alloy is provided by the presence of hard carbides in the microstructure. KmTBCr27 Alloy is particularly suited to mild acidic duties where erosion resistance is required.
• KmTBCr28 is martensitic white iron with moderate erosion resistance. It has the main elements of Chrome 28%, low Carbon with hardness of 430 in Brinell, KmTBCr28 is a corrosion resistant white iron suitable for low PH corrosion duties, where erosive wear is also a problem.
• KmTBCr35) is a premium erosion/corrosion alloy, The main elements of Chrome is 35-45%, low Carbon with hardness of 450 in Brinell. KmTBCr35 Alloy is suitable for phosphoric acid duties, FGD duties, sulphuric acid , and other moderately corrosive applications.

Rubber slurry pump

Rubber line casings are also used for certain application where the solid particles are small.

• RU08 is a black natural rubber, of low to medium hardness. RU08 is used for slurry pump rubber impellers where superior erosive resistance is required in fine particle slurries.
• RU26 is a black, soft natural rubber. RU26 is used for lines where superior erosion resistance to all other materials in fine particle slurry applications.
• RU33 is a premium grade black natural rubber of low hardness and is used for cyclone and pump liners and impellers where its superior physical properties give increased cut resistance to hard, sharp slurries.
• RU55 is premium grade black natural rubber, it is suitable for severe erosive fine particle slurries.

Polyurethane slurry pump

• PU01 is an erosion resistant material that performs well in elastomer applications where ‘tramp’ is a problem. This is attributed to the high tear and tensile strength of PU01. However, its general erosion resistance is inferior to that of natural rubber.

Ceramic slurry pump

• Corrosion Resistance With stable chemical property, SiC can stand nearly all kinds of corrosion of mineral acid, organic acid, alkali, and it also has great antioxidant performance.

• Wear Performance The crystal structure of SiC is same as regular tetrahedron of diamond, and it is also a compound mainly combined together by covalent bond. In fact, the hardness of SiC is next to that of diamond. Tested by Amostech, the anti-wear performance is 3.51 times that of Cr30.
